Snake Key Mode
In Snake Key Mode, reaching an apple is only half the job. Every apple is locked inside a cage, so you must collect a key before you can eat it. Keys can be carried on the snake, turning the usual apple hunt into a route-planning puzzle.
Find the Key Before the Apple
Each caged apple has a key somewhere on the board. Drive over a key to collect it, then head toward an apple. When you have a key, the cages show as open and you can eat a caged apple normally. The key is used up when you do.
A locked cage is solid, so hitting one without a key ends the round. This makes the order of your route important: key first, apple second. You can also collect several keys and carry them on the snake's neck, giving you more flexibility when planning your path.
After you eat an apple, another caged apple and a new key appear. The first key is placed between the snake and its first apple, giving you a straightforward introduction to the mechanic.
How to Play
- Desktop: Arrow keys or WASD to move
- Mobile / Tablet: Swipe gestures on the touchscreen
Key Mode supports 13 fruits or a mix, 1, 3, or 5 apples or lots of them, slow, normal, or fast speed, and small, medium, or large boards. You can also choose from 11 snake colors, including rainbow, and six board themes. Shuffle creates a random combination.
Your best score is saved separately for each combination of mode, apples, speed, and board size in your browser.
